Many of us have personal collections of books, documents (diaries, letters, etc.) photographs, computer files, and audio visual recordings that are important to us. Preserving such items can be important since they often hold value for us and for succeeding generations. This small book addresses some specific, practical guidelines about how to store and use specific materials most often found in personal collections. Brian Baird joined Bridgeport National Bindery as their Vice President of Library Services in the summer of 2007. He was attracted to the position because it gave him the opportunity to offer preservation services to a nationwide audience-especially those libraries not large enough to have full time preservation staff. Before working in the private sector, Brian was a member of the faculty at the University of Kansas as their first Preservation Librarian. Brian established cooperative programs with other educational institutions in Kansas that provided conservation and consultation services on a cost recovery basis. He also taught conservation and preservation courses in the KU Museum Studies Program and at the Emporia State University School of Library and Information Management. He also worked as a conservator at Princeton University. Brian was raised on a dairy farm in southeastern Idaho and has always had a love of farming and animals. While attending Brigham Young University he met and married his wife, Jennifer. They are the parents of seven children-two boys and five girls.
